A plea to my fellow Newton County drivers: Please slow down and stop when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk.
I've been amazed on too many occasions when drivers make eye contact but still continue to barrel through the clearly painted pathways where pedestrians are trying to cross.
This goes for the crossings that have the yellow (stop within the crosswalk) and the regular ones that are just painted white.
It is the law to stop and moreover someone's safety may be compromised by not following it.
There are walkers of all ages and children moving about. Let's all slow down, allow more time for where you need to be and follow the speed limits.
