To the editor: The Dec. 28 Covington News highlighted the effort by the Covington Garden Club Special Projects Committee and several City of Covington employees to refurbish and replant the Blue Star Memorial/Veterans Memorial Park. This park is at the corner of Ga. Highway 36 and Church Street and is at prominent entrances to Covington from the south.
The Covington Garden Club would like to express appreciation to the club members who contributed their time, energy and creativity to bring this memorial to full restoration as a tribute to our Armed Forces. The Special Projects Committee includes Carol Dunbar, Betty Rawlins, Kim Trover and Esther Williams, chairman. Also, we commend Kevin Sorrow, City Arborist; Billy Bouchillon, Public Works Director; Luther Bouchillon, Facilities Maintenance Manager; and Steve Cody; Gas Department Manager. Community service workers also played an important role in this project.
One of the Covington Garden Club’s goals is to continue to identify and restore areas of our city for all to enjoy.
Thank you again to the City of Covington employees for your readiness to assist us with this important restoration project that helps define the city’s commitment to honoring those who keep us safe. This partnership with the Covington Garden Club and the City of Covington will be very important to our future projects.
