These are our elected officials; they are supposed to represent us, not rule us. They should not be allowed to trample on, or waltz above, the laws they create for the rest of us to follow. Corruption is out of control, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had enough. The message needs to be sent, loud and clear, that these men and women are not above the law. They will abide by the rules set for the rest of us or they will ‘represent' us no more.
It is time for Americans to wake up. If you want to continue to live in ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave,' you had better realize that you are responsible for maintaining your freedom and bravery. Do not allow elected officials, no matter how high the office they hold, to set one standard for themselves and another for ‘everyone else.' If they refuse to pay taxes - from our own state legislature all the way up to Mr. Geithner, who heads the Treasury Department - then they cannot punish the rest of us for the same refusal. They are still American citizens, subject to the laws of the land. Their position does not exempt them from the law; they should exemplify it. They should maintain higher moral and ethical standards because they are in positions of leadership. This isn't about party lines; it is not about liberals or conservatives. This is about the American people being responsible, and holding responsible, those men and women who are, by choice, public servants - not a ruling class.
We the people have the responsibility and the obligation to elect men and women of great character, and supreme courage, yet still humble and responsive to the voices of those whom they represent. If we don't hold them accountable, no one will.
