Dear Editor: On Dec. 31 I was in the local Kroger store, and the place was packed. In the check-out line behind me was a city policeman. He had one can of soup, one item, and I had a cart full of groceries.
I told him to get in front of me since he had only one item, and I had many. He said, "Are you sure?" I said that I had plenty of time. He thanked me, checked out and left. I went to pay my bill and the cashier said that my bill had already been paid. I said I did not understand. The cashier said that the policeman ahead of me paid my bill. I could not believe it. This is a man I did not know and had never seen before. I asked the cashier for his name, but she did not know. She said that he said this was his good deed for the day. I am a very elderly woman and have lived in Covington for over 50 years. I have never had something like this happen to me before. I want all of Covington to know this is the kind of police department we have in Covington. (The Chief) and all in our city should be proud of this department. L.W. White Covington
