Letter to the editor... Congrats KCNB

Dear Editor: I just finished reading the KCNB supplement in Sunday’s Covington News. Wow, what an outstanding organization. I particularly enjoyed the older photographs. Clearly, KCNB has been ahead of its time for many years.

In December, Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful was honored by its parent organization, Keep America Beautiful, with the First Place Keep America Beautiful Affiliate Award. This national award is the highest honor an affiliate can receive. I am pleased to live in a community where recycling, reducing and reusing are so valued.

Kudos to director Connie Waller, her staff and board of directors for the excellent work they do to make our community better. I also appreciate Newton County and its Board of Commissioners for supporting this group.

KCNB’s trash pick up projects provide our local high school and college students with opportunities for community service. Their education projects in our elementary schools help mold our young citizens to be good stewards of our environment. The beautification grants provided by KCNB to businesses and neighborhoods beautify the county for everyone’s enjoyment.

Congratulations, KCNB, on 30 years of outstanding service and your well-deserved award. You help make Newton County a great place to live.
