Mr. Walter Hiram Williams died Jan. 3. The son of the late Jack and Fannie Mae Williams, he was born in 1948 in Barnesville. He was a graduate of the Lamar County School System. He joined East Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Barnesville at an early age. He later joined St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Covington under the leadership of Bishop Isaac Major Sr. and Pastor Brian Major. Mr. Williams loved singing gospel music and was a member of the Men's Choir. He served his county in the United States Army from 1967 to 1971. He was a Vietnam War veteran. Mr. Williams loved being with his family. He was known for his singing and dancing among family and friends. He never met a stranger.

Surviving are his daughter Ms. Francha "Chestnut" Foster of Thomaston; son Mr. Greg Williams of Griffin; granddaughter Nikesmia "NyNy' Alston of Thomaston; sister Mrs. Mary Jacqueline (Earl V.) Wright of Jonesboro; nephews Victor, Benjamin, Jacques, Russell B. World Sr., Dexter Harper, Demetrius Terry; dear friends Robert Lee White and Lucious Bentley; devoted friend and brother in Christ for over 25 years Bishop Isaac major Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Saint Matthews Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Isaac Major Sr. officiating. Interment will be in O'Neal Cemetery, Barnesville. Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at the funeral home.
