Ms. Susan Clark, 56, of Covington, passed away Nov. 21. She was born in LaGrange, graduated from LaGrange High School and attended Georgia Southern College before transferring to LaGrange College where she graduated with a BA in business administration. She always worked one or two jobs to pay her way through school and often had to leave school for a semester or more to earn the funds necessary to continue. While working for the Law Firm of Duncan, Thomasson and Avery, PC, in LaGrange, she obtained her paralegal degree and became interested in attending law school. Ms. Clark received several scholarships and awards and graduated from The Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1990.
Ms. Clark worked with the law firms of Morris, Hardwick & Schneider, PC, Sellers, Atkinson and Palatta, PC and Weisman, Nowack Curry & Wilco, PC. From 2006-2009, she opened The Clark Law Firm, PC, in Covington. During this time, she developed professional contacts and worked closely with East Metro Board of Realtors, Women's Council of Realtors and Newton County Homebuilders Association. She was the first to volunteer to teach a class on new real estate contract procedures and to sign up for and donate to professional and community fundraising events. She loved her work as a real estate attorney and the family of real estate professionals she worked with, socialized with and counseled through every need. Many came to refer to her as Susan "The Closer" Clark.
Ms. Clark loved her family and friends and was always there for support or to meet any need. She was lovingly referred to as Granny Sue and Aunt Susan by her granddaughter Sierra and niece Cayla. To those closest to her she was Jenny Sue, a nickname given to her by a real estate law professor at Mercer University and it just stuck.
Her sweet and gentle spirit will be forever treasured by those who survived her. They include her life partner Lynn Springston of Covington; sister and brother-in-law Karen and Jeff Rubin of Kennett Square, Pa., and Terri Clark of LaGrange; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Linda Messer of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law Janet Messer of Peachtree City; son and daughter-in-law Shawn and Michelle Springston of Social Circle; daughter Anna Springston of Mableton; grandchildren, Gregory Harwood and Sierra Springston; nieces Cayla Rubin, Carrie Weir, Jennifer Messer and Jerilyn Messer; nephews Justin Messer, Jeff Messer and Elliot Weir; great-granddaughter Ashlynn Harwood; great-niece Eliana Messer; great-nephews Travis and Tyler Weir; and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Myrlene Clark.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 1, in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with the Rev. Connie Tuttle officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Susan Clark to Gentle Hope, P.O. Box 82857, Conyers, GA 30013. The family will receive visitors at their home, 120 River Walk Farm Parkway, Covington, immediately following the service.
