Sterling Burney, 77, of Covington, passed away Sept. 12, 2013.

Mr. Burney was a member of Almon Baptist Church for 54 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Burney was a loving father and friend and enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Essie Ruth Fuller Burney; parents, Roy and Frances Burney; and brothers, Larry and Jerry Burney.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Burney, of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rick Murphy, of Jasper, Ga., and Vickie and the Rev. Doug Chatham, of Monroe, Ga; son, Wade Burney, also of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jack Burnette; sister-in-law, Eleanor Burney; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Burney will be Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with the Rev. Jimmy Glaze officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Visitation was held at the funeral home from 5–8 p.m. Sept. 14.
