Sarah Elizabeth Day Sears, 87, of Covington, died Jan. 5 at DeKalb Medical Center. The daughter of the late Columbus Yancey and Annie Elizabeth Hackett Day, Mrs. Sears was a wonderful cook and cake decorator as well as a talented seamstress. She was very artistic and enjoyed arts and crafts. Mrs. Sears was a faithful Christian and Sunday school teacher and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband James N. Sears and siblings Ruth Day Watkins, Annette Day Hewitt, the Rev. Ralph Day and Robert Preston Day. Survivors include husband Joe H. Sears of Covington; son James N. Sears II of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren Tammy Sears Cheek, James N. Sears III; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, with the Rev. John Donaldson officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Jan. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
