Ruby Inez Steadham Satterfield, 95, returned to her heavenly home Saturday, May 11, 2019, after a long and blessed life. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God sustained her throughout her life.

Ruby was born Aug. 30, 1923, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Steadham. She was the youngest of eight children and the last surviving sibling. Ruby met her husband, Roy G. Satterfield in Porterdale, Georgia, and they married February 23, 1946. Ruby and Roy were pretty much inseparable from then until Roy preceded her in death in 2008. They were married for 62 years and had two children, Brenda and Joe. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was a lifelong member of County Line Baptist Church and was baptized there in 1939. She attended faithfully until the last few years when her health no longer allowed. Ruby was a woman who honored the Lord throughout her life. She was a perfect example of the woman described in Proverbs 31.  Ruby lived her life with dignity, strength and wisdom. She had a servant’s heart, and from very early on in her life, she began caring for others who were sick or just needed help.

Ruby was an excellent cook and baker. She fed countless people with delicious meals from her garden and homemade cakes. Ruby was also an excellent seamstress. She loved to quilt and made quilts for lots of people and new babies over the years. Ruby made special ones for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a hard worker and was never idle. Ruby worked outside the home in the Porterdale Mill for years, and later Belk Department store where she ultimately retired. She also worked at home caring for aging parents and siblings, raising two children, planting and harvesting a garden, baking, canning, sewing, quilting, crafting and ironing - she could iron like nobody’s business! Ruby loved visiting with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as often as she could.

Ruby is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Larry Roberts; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Betty Satterfield; grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen, Joy, Justin; great-grandchildren, Charles, Lance, Andelin, Kinsley, Corinne, Payton, J.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby’s Celebration of Life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at County Line Baptist Church, 3325 Highway 162 South, Covington, Georgia 30016, with Dr. Ted Moody and the Rev. Johnny Steadham officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to County Line Baptist Church.
