Roger W. Sheridan, 92, of Newborn, passed away Dec. 3. Mr. Sheridan was the current mayor of Newborn, where he held the record of being the oldest mayor in the country and was a retired Army captain, having served in World War II. He holds two records in "Construction and Engineering" in the Guinness Book of World Records and was a manager for international engineering projects in 32 countries.

He was a member of Newborn United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge no. 1806, The American Legion, The VFW, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart and The Beavers.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley P. Sheridan of Newborn; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Sheridan and Richard Farber of Den Haag, Netherlands, Margaret and Keyser Cartledge of Covington, Susan Johnston of Newborn, Sherrie Sheridan of Lula; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kelly Sheridan of Roanoke, Va., Larry and Debra Sheridan of Marietta; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A memorial service for Mr. Sheridan will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at Newborn United Methodist Church, with the Rev. CeCe Nickolich officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Newborn Memorial Cemetery. To place online condolences, visit www.caldwellandcowan.com.
