Mr. Robert M. Whitley, 88, of Covington passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2011.  He was born July 10, 1923 in Jersey, Georgia to the late Mason and Lessie Whitley.  Mr. Whitley was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and brother.  Mr. Whitley loved life and worked until he was 80 years old in the asphalt and paving business that he owned.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Thelma Whitley in 2006. 

Mr. Whitley is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; J.R. and Marie Whitley of Watkinsville and his daughter and son-in-law; Peggy and Stan Cook of Covington.  He is also survived by his sister; Mrs. Doris Armistead of Oxford along with 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.     

Funeral services for Mr. Whitley will be held at 2 O’clock, Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Chapel of J. C. Harwell Funeral Home with Reverend George Gibbs officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5pm until 7pm, Wednesday, October 26, 2011.  Mr. Whitley’s grandson’s and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.  J.C.
