The Rev. James "Jimmy" Edwards of Covington passed away Sept. 6, 2013, at the age of 81. Jimmy was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He exhibited a quality of unconditional love that is admirable while caring for his beloved wife, Betty. He loved all of the churches he pastored and attended. He pastored Canaan Baptist, Mt. Zion two different times for a total of 12 years, Annie Mary Baptist, Ebenezer Baptist, Stewart Baptist, and at the time of his death, he attended Stewart Community Church.

Jimmy was an insurance agent for Life of Virginia and Metropolitan Insurance Co. for 30 years. He served two years of active duty with the United States Army and 22 years for the Army National Guard. Whenever needed, he accompanied the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team to prepare food for victims and volunteers. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Olivia (Tomlin) Edwards; and siblings, Samuel, Hugh, Amy, Dura and Wallace (Happy).

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cordell Edwards of Covington; daughter, Denise E. Love and her husband, Fred W. Love Jr. of Riverdale; granddaughter, Markie Michelle Love; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jimmy will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jason Johnson officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-6:30 Sept. 8 and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
