Mr. Nevin Jack Standard, 93, of Oxford, passed away Aug. 16.

Mr. Standard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served his country during World War II. He attended Sewell United Methodist Church and North Covington United Methodist Church. He retired from Belk Department Store, in 1994, after 35 years. Mr. Standard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his wife Charlie Dent (Dial) Standard; and his parents Benjamine H. and Kattie Bell (Gray) Standard.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Danny and Sarah Standard of Oxford; granddaughter Sarah and Ben Lockwood of Athens; grandson Issac Standard; great-grandson Sawyer Nevin Standard, both of Oxford; brother and sister-in-law Edward Artis and Betty Standard of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Standard will be held today, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Pastor Richard Harris and his son Rev. Danny Standard officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
