Naomi Hood Knight, lifelong resident of Cornish Mountain Community in Oxford, died April 4, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Born and raised on a dairy farm in Walton County, she was the daughter of the late Robin and Mozelle Kitchens Hood, and the widow of the late James William Knight. Mr. and Mrs. Knight operated a poultry farm for thirty years, with Mrs. Knight operating the farm by herself from 1966 to 1976, at which time her husband joined her in the business. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, they opened and operated Knight’s Nursery. Mrs. Knight was a talented musician and played the organ and piano for Cornish Mountain Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church, Covington. She maintained a membership at all three churches. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Bryan Knight. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Leigh Anne Knight; granddaughter, Meghann Knight; sister and brother-in-law, Amogene and Vester Maughon, all of Oxford; nieces and nephews, David and Donna Maughon, Cindy and Greg Barnett, Eddie Maughon, Keith Maughon, Christie and Stuart Ozburn, Tony and Jana Thompson and Sherry and Billy Shepherd. Funeral Services for Mrs. Knight will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Vester Maughon and Rev. Len Strozier, officiating, and interment following in Cornish Mountain Baptist Cemetery.
