Sara Greer Prosser, age 98, passed away on July 15, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Sara Catherine Greer, the second child of Henry Clifford and Lillie Granade Greer, was born June 23, 1914 in Griffin, Georgia. After the death of her father the family moved to Mansfield, Georgia in 1919. She attended school in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1931. She attended Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia and graduated in 1935. After teaching in Georgia and South Carolina for 8 years, she married James (Jimmy) Prosser in 1943. They raised two sons in Mansfield. Outside of her family, her love was for her church and to teach. She returned to teaching at Mansfield Elementary School and retired from teaching in the Newton County school system after 25 years.   She was a member of the Mansfield Baptist Church and after 50 years, at the age of 93, she retired from teaching Sunday School. She was known in the community as “Miss Sara” and after living through two wars and the Great depression, was the community’s historian and link to the past. Her greatest joy was to share her experiences and historical knowledge with friends and family. She loved her country and truly was a member of the “Greatest Generation”.  She is preceded in death by her husband, James Arlington Prosser, her brother, Jean Greer and her sister, Helen Lee.
