Mrs. Lucile Stokes, 82, of Covington passed away December 4, 2011 at Newton Medical Center. She was born September 13, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Gillum Chester and Garnett Wright Jackson. Mrs. Stokes was employed with Newton Medical Center working for a number of years as a clerk in the emergency room. A member of Countyline Baptist Church, Mrs. Stokes taught preschool age children in Sunday school and was an active member of her church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her son Avery Jackson Stokes.
Mrs. Stokes is survived by her husband Mr. James Stokes and their children Garnett Sue Stokes of Tallahassee, Florida, David Warren and Felicia Stokes of Lexington, Kentucky and James Scott Stokes of Atlanta along with five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters; Rachel Mears of Maryland and Harriet Jackson of Tulsa, Oklahoma along with one brother Thomas Jackson of St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stokes will be held at 1 O’clock Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Reverend Clifton Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Covington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Flowers will be accepted however, those desiring may make donations to Countyline Baptist Church, 3325 Highway 162 Covington, GA 30016 or to a charity of your choice. J.C.
