Mrs. Jewell T. Shelton of Mansfield passed away November 2, 2011 at Newton Medical Center.  She was 97 years old at the time of her death.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Shelton, and parents, Arthur and Ophelia (Tanner) Callaway.  Mrs. Shelton was a homemaker who enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.  She was a wonderful cook, with cakes being her specialty.  Mrs. Shelton was a member of Mansfield Baptist Church, where she was a faithful nursery worker for many years.  She loved being with her grand and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Shelton is survived by her daughter Kitty King of Mansfield; sons, Bennett F. Shelton, Jr. of Mansfield, Donnie Shelton of Social Circle; sister, Florence Atkinson of Tampa, FL; brother, Raymond Callaway of Jonesboro; 6 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Shelton will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 4, 2011, at Carmel Cemetery in Mansfield, with James King, Jr. and B.F. (Rusty) Shelton, III officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA  30605.
