Mrs. Ethel “Grandmama” Marks, age 81 of Mansfield passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, July 22, 2012.  She was born October 18, 1930 in Tennille, Georgia to the late William Franklin and Maude Ellen Crowe Harwell.  Mrs. Marks along with her husband Mr. Joe Lee Marks, who preceded her in death, were a founding family of the Newton County Farm Bureau, where her children and grandchildren are still very active members.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who is affectionately known as “Grandmama Marks” was a member of Newborn United Methodist Church, she enjoyed quilting, reading and most of all being with her family that she loved.  The youngest of twelve siblings Mrs. Marks was preceded in death by nine of her brothers and sisters.

 

Mrs. Marks is survived by her children; Bobby and Kay Marks, Bill and Leslie Marks, Brenda and Billy Stanton, Ben and Debra Marks, Becky and Steve Byrum, and Brad and Terri Marks all of Mansfield, her two sisters; Mary Wright of Flowery Branch and Elizabeth Cecil of Lexington, NC.  She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Marks will be held at 11 O’clock Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Marks Family Pavilion on Marks Road in Mansfield with Reverend CeCe Nickolich officiating.  Interment will follow at Marks Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, July 23, 2012.  In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Newborn United Methodist Church, PO Box 53 Newborn, GA 30056, The American Cancer Society Team Becky or the Marks Family Pavilion Maintenance Fund c/o Brenda Stanton 1371 Woodlawn Road, Covington, GA 30014.  J.C.
