On Aug. 1, 1954, Mr. Henry Little and Mrs. Queenie Bell Little was blessed with a beautiful baby girl. They named her Carrie Bell Little. She was born in Newton County.
At an early age, she was a member of James Paschal Baptist Church. She was always a happy child. She grew to become a responsible and beautiful teenager as she attended and graduated from Newton County High School in 1972. She continued to mature and served God’s Kingdom as secretary of the church.
She obtained her degree from DeKalb Community College and began her lifelong calling of teaching. She touched the lives of many children and adults through her 44 years of service, spending 34 years at Stoneview Elementary.
She married Franklin Calhoun on June 20, 1987. They served the Lord and each other for 31 years. During their marriage, they transitioned in service to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in East Point.
She was a very caring person and showed it in many ways. Her ministry was impacting lives through love by sending cards on birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, holidays and numerous of other occasions. She took pride in her ministry. Each of you reading this were an important part of her ministry and inspired her to serve even more. She continued this ministry in all areas of life from family, friends, co-workers and overall everyday living.
Later in life, she became dedicated to exercise and working out at the YMCA. As a faithful member, she enjoyed Zumba workouts and received accolades for her commitment earning top honors and recognition for her commitment.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Henry Little; mother, Mrs. Quennie Bell Little; sister, Eva; and brothers, Henry and Walter.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Mr. Franklin Calhoun; daughter, Mrs. Lisa M. Sullivan (Kelvin); son, Mr. Nantambu Calhoun (Dwyniece); granddaughter, Tanesha; four grandsons, Nantambu II, Tyre, David Jr. and Tyeson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Margaret C. Gardner; two aunts, Mrs. Margaret Brown and Mrs. Kathryn Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration began at noon Saturday, July 14, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clayton E. Taylor Sr. as the pastor and eulogist. Burial followed at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens in Conyers. A meal followed in the church’s fellowship hall.
Pallbearers were Gary Thomas, Barry Sidwell, Eddie Rufus Sidwell, Kelvin Sullivan and Afiba Fairnot. Family and friends served as floral bearers.
Friends are earthly blessings, responding and caring in moments of despair. Our family will forever be grateful for your friendship expressed in so many ways during the passing of our loved one. Your prayers, visits, calls, flowers, cards and other acts of love are sources of strength and consolation.
