Betty Anne James of Atlanta passed away January 23, 2014, at the age of 80. Mrs. James was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her life revolved around her family, but above all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, and especially liked preparing her baked spaghetti, chicken and dumplings, chocolate pie and her famous homemade biscuits. Mrs. James will be missed by all who loved and adored her. She was the last surviving child of her 12 siblings. In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Crawford James; children, Cherry Anne Johnson, Timothy Shawn James, and Dennis Michael (Mike) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Nikia Leann Cronan and Logan Daniel Thacker; and her parents, Charles Victor and Rose (Martin) Smith.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Vikki McConnell of Danbury, Texas, Susan Tate of Bethlehem, Karen Thacker of Covington, Debbie and Alvin Cronan of Cohutta; son, Scott James of Atlanta; grandchildren, Janna Tully, Jason Brown, Aaron Brown, Ryan Brown, Leigh Phillips, Tommy Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Jessica Mize, Michael Brian Johnson, Jennifer Peace, Terry Thacker, Tiffany Wilkins, Tammy Sinyard, Kimberly Oakley, Nicholas Cronan, Jeremy Cronan; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Faye Smith of Covington and Margie Allen of Porterdale; and her very special friend, Ann Satterfield of Cumming.

Funeral services for Mrs. James will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd St., Covington, with Pastor Ray Seaton officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 25.
