Obituary      

   Mr. Raymond Byrd was born in Newton County, on March 16, 1929 to the parentage of the late Mr. Tom and Mrs. Byrd. He was the seventh of eight children and was preceded in death by wife, Claudia, son, Larry, four sisters and two brothers.

       He was a long time resident of Newton County until he moved to Dekalb County in early 2002 to live with his daughter, Carolyn. He was a member of the Community Organization "Families of Chapel Hill" where he served as Vice President. He was a faithful employee of Bibb Manufacturing in Porterdale, Georgia. He enjoyed taking walks, spending time with his family and meeting new people, young or old.

      He leaves to cherish his memories, his four children, Mr. & Mrs. Earl (Carolyn) Romig, of Decatur, Georgia, Rev. & Evang. Willie (Gwendolyn) Smith, of Covington, Georgia, Mr. & Mrs.  Randy (Shelia) Byrd, of Covington, Georgia, Mr. & Mrs. Timothy (Tyjuan) Byrd, of Conyers, Georgia, one brother, Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy  Leroy (Cora) Byrd, five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Connie, Dion, Timothy, Jr. and Shawarner, four great-grandchildren: Danquarius, JeNya, Kennedy, Malajah, and a host of other relatives and friends.
