Mr. Herbert L. Wiley, 97 of Mansfield, Ga. passed away February 10, 2011 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Mr. Wiley was born in Covington, Ga. to the late James W. and Nezzie Prickett Wiley. He was a member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church in Mansfield and a Mason for over 60 years. Mr. Wiley was drafted into the US Army with his friend Mr. E.G. Lassiter in the 1940’s and was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas. Mr. Wiley worked for the State Highway Department in Covington for several years before marrying his wife Bertha Elliott. After his marriage he worked for US Steel in Atlanta until he was drafted. After his service period he operated a shoe repair business in Covington for several years until he went to work for Decatur Glass where he remained for over 25 years until he retired. Mr. Wiley and his wife built their home in Mansfield in 1965 where he enjoyed his cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a good neighbor and a good Christian Man. Mr. Wiley is predeceased by his wife of 65 years Bertha Elliott Wiley, his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wiley Savage and Frances Wiley Lewis, both of Covington, and Gladys Wiley Dunn of Salt Lake City. Surviving are his sisters Dorothy Wiley Jones of Salt Lake City, Jeanne Wiley Driver of Covington, his brother Billy Ray Wiley of Conyers, and his Goddaughter Carlene Duke Clemons and many nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Wiley will be held on Sunday February 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Dodson Family Cemetery in Mansfield. His family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Friends may sign the online register at www.wheelerfuneralhome.com.
