George T. Day, Sr., 76, of Covington, passed away June 17, 2014. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Oxford. Day Tree Service, established in 1969, was the first tree service in Newton County. Mr. Day owned and operated his tree service while working for Lithonia Lighting for 21 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and boating. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished his family and treasured his time with them. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Annie Lois (Woodruff) Day.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Patricia (Pat) E. Day; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and David Peters of Conyers; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Lisa Day of Covington, Ray and Lisa Townley of Oxford, George T. (Tommy), Jr., and Becky Day of Covington; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Kitchens of Conyers; Shirley and Roy Taylor of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Martha Day of Snellville, Harrison and Joyce Day, Don and Linda Day, Russell and Ruth Day, Terry Day, all of Covington, Charles and Sherrie Day of Monroe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Day will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014, 3 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Rev. Jeffrey Taylor and Rev. Mickey Kitchens officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
