Obituary
Mother Ida Mae Ruth was born on June 25, 1923 in Soperton, Georgia. She was the daughter of Mr.  James Pierce and Mrs. Viola Pierce-McClendon and was raised by her mother and loving stepfather, Mr. Sam McClendon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John W. Ruth, her first husband, Mr. Edward Walker and siblings, Birdie Lee Knight-Beach, Gertrude Franklin, Everlean Alexander, Roscoe Pierce, Ezzie Edwards, Willie D. McClendon, Robert McClendon, Roger McClendon, Rufus McClendon, John T. McClendon and Easter Toler.

Mother Ruth graduated from Treutlen County High School,  and then taught primary school for several years. As a young woman, she moved to Savannah where she would spend most of her life. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church and later spent 32 years as a member of the Pentecostal Holiness of the Church of God in Christ where she served on the Mother Board and as a local missionary. After relocating to Stone Mountain, she became a member of Peek's Chapel Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia.

Mother Ruth loved to stay busy and was known for lending a helping hand whenever she could. Throughout her life, she channeled her love for others into her work, serving at times as a private duty for the elderly and as a nanny for young children. In her free time, she would often crochet blankets and donate them to local nursing homes. Mother Ruth maintained a joyful spirit and her infectious laugh, love for dancing, constant smile and sense of humor will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, Willie  James Walker, of New York, two daughters, Gwendolyn Robinson (Willie Lee), of Savannah, Georgia and Novelia Treadwell (Charles), of Stone Mountain, Georgia, two sisters, Sudie Lee Robinson (Robbie), of Staten Island, N.Y. and  Annette Richards (Ernest), of Tuskegee, AL., 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, Annie Willie Ruth, Sarah McClendon and Ramona McClendon, one brother-in-law, Robert Ruth (Eloise)  and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
