Mrs. Mary Nell Phillips Carpenter, 91, of Toccoa, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Clary Care Center.
Born April 1, 1926 in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Spence Arthur Phillips and Catherine Allen “Katie” Phillips. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Family members include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Turpin and Dan, of Toccoa, and Carol Eakins and Randy, of Covington; sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Carpenter and Wanda, of Toccoa, and Phillip Carpenter and Russell Gross, of Springfield, Virginia; grandchildren, Scott Carpenter, Corey Carpenter and Kim, Joshua Carpenter and Amy, Matthew Turpin and Julie, Stephanie Eakins Cleveland and David Jared Eakins, Jonathan Carpenter and Joseph Carpenter and Meghan; great-grandchildren, Logan Emmitt Carpenter, Tate Turpin, Talley Turpin, Mary Kate Cleveland, Mills Cleveland, Madden Cleveland, Caroline Carpenter, Cole Carpenter, Cason Carpenter, Anna Kate Carpenter, Elijah Finn Carpenter, and Henry Abraham Carpenter; sister, Reba Gibby, of Toccoa; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Arlington Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Lodge and the Rev. Jerry Stowe officiating.
Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Andy Childs officiating at the graveside service. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Scott Carpenter, Emmitt Carpenter, Corey Carpenter, Matt Turpin, Jared Eakins, David Cleveland, Joe Carpenter and Jon Carpenter.The Linda Howard Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers and will meet at the church at 4:15 p.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 10.
