Mr. Lamar B. Hays, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, died March 4 at Abbey Hospice. The son of the late Lee and Sarah Byrd Hays, he was born in 1936 in Newton County. Mr. Hays was the owner of Hays Tractor of Mansfield and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He served in the Air National Guard, was a member of Woodmen of thw World, was the former chief of the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Department and served many years as city councilman of Mansfield.
Surviving are wife of 47 years Carrie Henderson Hays of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law Susan Hays and ken Boss; daughter Sandra Hays Johnson; daughter and son-in-law Sheila Hays and Brian Massey; grandchildren Brandon Hays, Ali Johnson, Aubrey Boss, Gracie Boss, Andrew Massey, Alex Massey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Mansfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Miller, the Rev. Tommy Gregory and the Rev. Jeff Perkins officiating. Interment will be in the Hays Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, March 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abbey Hospice or the Diabetes association.
