John Hugh Shepherd of Covington, passed away August 3, 2011, at the age of 83. Mr. Shepherd was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Japan during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and reading. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

Mr. Shepherd was preceded in death by his parents, John Rashie and Ina Pearl (Kitchens) Shepherd.

 

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lou Shepherd of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Sherry Shepherd of Watkinsville, Marty and Debbie Shepherd of Oxford; grandchildren, Brad Shepherd, David Shepherd, Lauren Shepherd Kerr; great-grandchildren, Emory Shepherd, John Parker Shepherd; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Shepherd will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Jerry Barrett and Rev. Bill Stafford officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, August 5, from 6-8 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to Cornish Mountain Baptist Church, 1089 Cornish Mountain Church Road, Oxford, GA 30054.
