Mr. Jerome Cardell Glover "Dell" died Oct. 9. He was born in 1987 to Ms. Phoebe Stanley and Mr. Floyd Jerome Glover. Mr. Cardell attended Eastside High School and was a respectable young man, waiting and excited about his upcoming 21st birthday. He was a quiet person who loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are mother Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Phoebe) Williams; father Mr. Floyd Jerome Glover; siblings Dominique Stanley, Antwone Glover; grandparents Ms. Dorothy Mae Broughton, Mrs. Mary Glover, Mr. James Melvin Stanley, Mr. Floyd Glover Sr.; devoted aunt Mr. and Mrs. Donnie (Shelia) Hurst; girl friend Ms. Ashley Smith; aunts Renee Gunn, Lisa Russell; uncle James Russell; nieces Teniyah Stanley, Jasmine Dyer, Twanasia Glover; nephews Kendarious cook, Antwan Glover; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Early Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Kenneth Williams officiating. Interment followed at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Newborn.

Anna Felmon Glass Horton

Anna Felmon Glass Horton died Oct. 12 at Newton Medical Center. The daughter of the late Ella Shy Bradley and Willie Floyd Glass, she was born in 1930 in Morgan County. Mrs. Horton, known as Ann, grew up in Morgan County and attended the Walker Chapel School and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age. An excellent homemaker, Mrs. Horton enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her joy. She helped raise several grandchildren and many other children, who called her "Grand Ma Ann." With a loving and friendly spirit, Mrs. Horton never met a stranger. She loved everyone and was loved by those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by husband Maxie Horton Sr., son Darron Lamar, nephew Charlie L. Hyman and siblings John Willie "Tampa" Gory, Horace Mitchell, Carrie Bell "CB" Hyman, Betty "June" Nelson, Arthur "Man" Bradley, Addie Elder, Mary Floyd Taylor and Horace Glass.
Surviving are daughters Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Betty) Williams, Mrs. Shirley Jackson-Wilborn, Ms. Angela Horton; sons Mr. Horace Horton, Mr. Ricky Horton, Mr. Maxie Horton Jr., Mr. Ernest Horton; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; half-brother Mr. Asa Glass; sisters-in-law Mrs. Mamie Williams, Mrs. Willie Pearl Rogers, Mrs. Gracie Scott, Ms. Hattie Butts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous dear friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Rutledge, with the Rev. Alfred Murray officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brenda Price, 64, long-time resident of Covington, died Oct. 20. The daughter of the late James T. Young and Mrs. Gladys (Youngblood) Young of Covington, she was born in Gwinnett County in 1944. Mrs. Price loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband Howard Daniel "Danny" Price.
Surviving are children Brad and Cari McAlister of Covington, Wade and Christy Price of Covington; mother Mrs. Gladys Young of Covington; grandchildren Danielle Foster, Tyler Price, Crisi McAlister, Cati McAlister; great-grandchildren Brady Foster, Marvin "Lucky" Foster; sister and brother-in-law Glenda and Jimmy Kemp; one half-sister; one half-brother; numerous other family and close friends.
The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral home today, Oct. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in New Covington Cemetery.

Mr. Ralph Reid died Oct. 11 at Newton Medical Center. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Emma Mae Byrd) Reid, he was born in 1953 in Newton County. Educated in the Newton County Public School System and was a skilled construction worker and had a great knowledge of operating heavy equipment, a job he really enjoyed. After a 40-year relationship, he married Deborah A. Roberts in 2005. He joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in 2007, serving faithfully until his illness. He enjoyed fishing, driving fast cars and motorcycles and drag racing. Ralph impacted the lives of all he met; he loved people and truly never met a stranger. He had a great love for his family, his children and grandchildren.

Mr. P.J. (Pete) Sargent, 86, of Covington, died Oct. 19. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the southern Philippines and was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Cora Emma Aycox Sargent.
Surviving are daughters Anga Bishop of Mobile, Ala., Jenna Sargent of Covington, Gala Dempsey of Lithonia; brother Frank Sargent of Lithonia; foru grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 21 in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell McKee officiating. Interment followed at Lithonia City Cemetery.

Ms. Ernestine Varner died Oct. 11. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Ora) Varner, she was born in 1926.

Laura Etta J. Walker

Mrs. Laura Etta J. Walker died Oct. 14 at DeKalb Medical Center. The daughter of the late Emory and Doris Johnson, she was born in 1943 in Morgan County. Mrs. Walker joined Flat Rock Baptist Church, Madison, at an early age and attended Flat Rock Community school and graduated from pearl High School. Mrs. Walker worked in factories in Rutledge and Madison and served others in the capacity of housekeeper. She retired from Mobile Chemical Oil Co. in Covington. Later she became disabled from diabetes, yet she received a floral arrangement certificate and became a florist, making beautiful arrangements, wedding bouquets and funeral arrangements. She was secretary of Flat Rock Baptist Church and worked at the Macedonia Baptist Church. She was superintendent of Sunday School at Union Springs Baptist Church and served at Cornerstone Christian Center until her health failed. She was a clerk for the voting poll committee in Rutledge. She did what she could to help her community, taking care of others and providing smiles and support. She never met a stranger. Mrs. Walker was married to Maurice Walker and was preceded in death by children baby boy Walker and baby Lisa and siblings Maggie and Milton Johnson..
Surviving are children Scarlett W. Kirkland, Marian W. Bradley, Gary (Monica) Walker, Sherrie (Andre) Shy; grandchildren Bernard Walker, Joshua Walker, Reginald King, Chanteria Shy, Marneza Walker, Sherrod Shy, Christopher Lee, Garren Walker, Destiny Sawyer, Makayla Walker, great-grandchildren Shaliyah Walker, Jakiah Walker; sisters Dorothy White, Frances Johnson, Ella B. King, Brenda (Milton) Carr, Hillie (Arthur) Hurst; brothers Emory (Addie) Johnson Jr., Jimmy (Jennie) Johnson, Larry (Gloria) Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; the Clark family; and the Warren family and friends.
