Mrs. Hazel Harris Parish, 88, of Covington, joined her heavenly Father, May 1, peacefully at Abbey Hospice while surrounded by her family. Mrs. Parish was a lifelong resident of Covington and member of the First Baptist Church. She worked briefly, but when her children came along, the decision was made to be a full-time wife and mother. You could often find Mrs. Parish sitting on Floyd Street greeting everyone who came by. Mrs. Parish was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Her favorite saying was, "I have had a wonderful life, and God is so good." She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Otis A. Parish Jr., her parents Ras and Fannie (Filyaw) Harris and her sisters Helen Patrick and Jackie Durden.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and David Ellis, Patti and Larry King, all of Covington; grandchildren Tiffany and Bobby Ray, Nick and Ashley Ellis, John and Katy King, Ryan and Heather King; great-grandchildren Jaxon Ray, Camden Ray, MaKayla King, Austin King; brothers and sister-in-law Neal Harris of Covington, James and Margaret Harris of Monroe; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parish will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Len Strozier, the Rev. Charles Reynolds and the Rev. J.J. Wilson officiating, and interment following in Covington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, tomorrow, May 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to her church, First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street, Covington, GA 30014; or Abbey Hospice, P.O.
