Grace Rogers Phillips, of Covington, passed away July 28, 2017, at 91 years of age. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of the University of Georgia and an active member of Oxford Baptist Church. She volunteered for various civic organizations and charities, and was the oldest member of the Pilot Club in Covington, serving for over 30 years. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Edgar J. Phillips; and parents, George Walton and Maxie (Hodges) Rogers.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Phillips Bassani of Berea, OH; son, James Walton Phillips, of Oxford; grandchildren, Philip Bassani, Luciano Bassani; sisters and brother-in-law, Sara P. and G. Foster Morgan, Maxine B. Phillips; nieces, Nan Odom Knowles, Susan Rogers Broyles, Elaine Bruce Pruitt; nephews, Dr. W. Jones Phillips, Stephen P. Morgan, Dr. Randall J. Phillips; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Phillips will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, 2 p.m., at Oxford Baptist Church, 305 Emory St., in Oxford, with Rev. Andy Brown and Dr. Alan Posey officiating. Interment will follow in Oxford Historical Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Monday, July 31, from 5 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 760 Pollard Blvd., SW Atlanta, GA 30315, or Oxford Baptist Church.
