Ms. Geneva Rhodes was born in Newborn on Dec. 1, 1951 to Mr. and Mrs. Leroy (Lula Hart) Rhodes. She was the fourth of their six daughters. Four sisters Rosie Rene, Selema, Bertha Lee and Charlene preceded her in death.

Ms. Rhodes was raised and educated in Newton County. At an early age, she joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, becoming an active and devoted member. She enjoyed serving on the kitchen committee. A very hard worker, Ms. Rhodes was employed at the Burnt Pines Plantation where she was one of the favorite cooks. She was known for preparing very scrumptious and appetizing breakfasts. Affectionately called "Mickey," Ms. Rhodes was the proud mother of son Erick, who was the center of her joy. An excellent homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, cleaning, gardening.

Her favorite pastime, however, was shopping and drinking her "sweet tea." Ms. Rhodes was truly a joy to be around; she was always very energetic, loving, kind and always smiling and joking.

The Lord called Ms. Rhodes home on Oct. 21. She leaves precious memories in the hearts of her son Mr. and Mrs. Erick (Cornelia) Rhodes; two grandchildren Ricardo Barron and Shon Hardeman; four great-grandchildren Keledrin Barron, Ryonna Barron, Dontavious Cook and Sharia Smith; sister Mrs. Lillie Mae Webb; special niece Beatrice Rhodes; special great-nephew Carlos Rhodes; a devoted friend Joanne Hardeman; and a host of cousins and numerous dear friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Geneva "Mickey" Rhodes will be held today, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Newborn. Pastor Vincent Casey, eulogist. Assisted by others. Interment will follow at Springfield memorial Gardens.
