Evelyn T. Evans of Covington passed away Aug. 1 at her residence.
She was born on July 11, 1939, in Atlanta, to Bill and Mary Alice McLane Thompson.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bird-watching, reading and traveling. She had volunteered her time with Newton Reads and the Newton County Library.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, LeBron Evans; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Marshall Ginn of Covington and Mandy and Todd Farrow of Social Circle; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jenni Hambrice of Carriere, Miss., and Greg and Michele Evans of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister Wilma Durpo of Asheville N.C.; grandchildren Brian and wife Kayla Hambrice, Brad Hambrice, Ellie and Colton Ginn, Carly and Courtney Farrow, and Hannah Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary Alice and Bill Thompson, and brother Walter Thompson.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the First Baptist Church of Covington with the Rev. Len Strozier officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the church Fellowship Hall.
