Ella Mae (Shane) Walker Horton was born to the late Mr. Albert Jr. and Mrs. Eunice Walker on March 14, 1939 in Covington.

Ella Mae attended Washington Street School as a child. During her early years she became a really good cook with her mother’s help. She shared her love of cooking with her family and friends and was always willing to feed the neighborhood. 

Ella married the late Mr. Johnny Horton, Jr. and spent many years with him until god called him home in 1972. Ella’s personality and compassion for others made her a friend to many for her happy spirit, her beautiful smile and her amazing laugh made her a very attractive person. Through the years she proved to be a loving mother, supportive grandmother and a joyful friend to all who knew her.

On Sept. 4, 2018, God called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Horton, Jr.; one daughter, Kathy Williams; one grandchild, Rico A. Horton (Stink); one sister, Lucille Anderson; two brothers, Albert Walker, Jr. and Linton Walker

She is survived by her loving and devoted children, daughter, Mrs. Brendelyn Phillips; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Krista) Horton, Mr. Michael Horton and Mr. and Mrs. Kantrail (Holly) Horton; brothers, Mr. Bobby Walker, Mr. Leon Walker and Mr. & Mrs. Howard (Jeanie) Walker; one son-in-law, Mr. Johnny Williams; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of great, great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. One Special lifelong friend, Mrs. Leila Robinson.

A celebration of life began at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at New Hope Baptist Church, 2207 Brown St. in Covington with the Rev. Harold Miller and Minister Kisha Walker officiating.
