Doris P. Burroughs, 84 of Oxford, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Abbey Hospice. Doris was born in Carnesville to the late James and Bessie Ariail Poole. She worked at CR Bard for 26 ½ years. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and loved to crochet, work in her rose garden and loved hummingbirds. Doris was an avid Braves fan. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Jack Burroughs in 2010; sister, Melisse Harrison and niece, Lisa Atkinson.
She is survived by her children Patricia (Freddie) Neely, Daniel Burroughs, Debbie Burroughs and Mark (Donna) Burroughs; brother Don (Carolyn) Poole; grandchildren Michael Burroughs, Clint (Jennifer) Neely, Crystal (Travis) Hutcheson and Misty Burroughs; four great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at noon in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Pastor Mac McKibben and Dr. Rev. Jeff Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abbey Hospice Foundation, P. O.
