DeEsta Margaret Coker, age 88, died January 30, 2011, at her home in Oxford. Born to the late James Elden and DeEsta Margaret McFarland, Mrs. Coker enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and nature, particularly the ocean and birds. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Mrs. Coker is preceded in death by her husband, Donald George Coker, and brother, John McFarland.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Janet Coker of Reisterstown, MD, Alan and Lisbeth Coker of Midlothian, VA, David and Melissa Coker of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tony Spangler of Athens; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia McGreal of Glendale, CA; brothers, James McFarland of Seattle, WA, David McFarland, Bellevue, WA; and brother-in-law, Jack Coker of Upland, CA.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coker will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Allen Memorial Methodist Church in Oxford, with Rev. Brian Dale officiating, and interment following in Oxford Historical Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1215 Access Road, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, from 6 – 8 PM.
