Mr. Charlie Sweat, age 76, of Covington passed away Aug. 15, 2017. He was born May 18, 1941 in Nashville, Georgia to O.T. and Evelyn Griffin Sweat who have preceded him in death. Mr. Sweat was a devoted family man who loved his family very much. He is retired from the City of Covington as a Superintendent in the Electrical Department. After retiring there he started a second career retiring from the City of Oxford as the Public Works Director.
Mr. Sweat is survived by his children; Rita Sweat Galloway (Steve) of Covington and Mike Sweat (Diane) of Palmetto his grandchildren; Jason Galloway (Courtney) and Corey Sweat his step children; Kim Coady (Steve), Karen Presley (Danny) and Keith Street (Lynn) his 10 step grandchildren and his 8 step great grandchildren also survive him along with his siblings; Robert Sweat (Nancy), Billy Sweat (Diane), Eddie Sweat (Elise), Vernon Sweat (Charlene), Winston Sweat (Barbara), Shirley Richardson (Barry), Dorothy Broxton and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends survive him.
Funeral services for Mr. Sweat will be held at 2 o’clock Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 at The Baptist Tabernacle with Reverend Todd Sweat officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017. J.C.
