Charles Terry (Pop) Smith, 69 of Oxford, passed away November 4, 2016. Smith was a painter and mechanic for many years. Once known as the “best transmission man” in the Covington area, he was affectionately known as the “Rag Man” in his later years. Smith was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Never one to meet a stranger, and having a remarkable sense of humor were two of his greatest attributes. Smith enjoyed watching the History Channel and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing. He was a member of Calvary Community Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, William Patterson and Viola Ruth (Swofford) Smith; five brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy W. Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jason Rowe of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Diana Smith; grandchildren, Josh Smith, Chase Barkley, Trey Smith, Philip Rowe, Tiffany Rowe, Jordan Smith and Abigail Smith; great-grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Mason Smith; caregiver and sister-in-law, Mary Yates Womack of Oxford; two sisters-in-law, Faustine Payne of Oxford, Florine Womack of Snellville; brothers-in-law, Tommy Womack of Oxford, Jim Womack of Loganville; one aunt; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Gabby.

A memorial service for Smith will be held Monday, November 7, 2016, 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Rev. Everett Leavell officiating. Friends may visit with his family at the funeral home, Sunday, November 6, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
