Bertha Knight Thompson of Covington, passed away February 22, 2010, at the age of 80. She was a resident of Walton County for most of her life and was loved by the entire Cornish Mountain community. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday school and the church choir. She loved cooking and was well known for her delicious fried apple pies. Mrs. Thompson dearly loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Richard Thompson; her parents, Roy and Ruby Stowe Knight and brother, James Knight. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Billy Shepherd; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Jana Thompson, all of Watkinsville, GA; sister-in-law, Naomi Knight of Oxford; grandchildren, Brad and Cynthia Shepherd, David Shepherd, Rebecca Thompson, Cindy Thompson, Shelly Thompson; great-granddaughter, Emory Shepherd; nephew, Scott Knight and many close friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Thompson will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 2 PM, at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Barrett and Rev. Bill Stafford officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., in Covington, Tuesday, February 23, from 6-8 PM.
