Ben Kingree III, 80, passed away on March 6, 2015 at Hilton Head Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sarah Jane Hinerman Kingree, his two sons Ben Kingree IV and Jeffrey Brooks Kingree, daughter Susan Kingree Dodge, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ben Kingree III is predeceased by his daughter Leslie Kingree Lyle.
Ben was born and raised in Shelbyville, Tennessee son of Ben Kingree, Jr. and Josephine Cooper. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in 1956 and Juris Doctor in 1962. Ben was a member of the Order of the Coif as well as Associate Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review while in law school. Prior to law school he was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his education and military service Ben became a partner in the law firm of Bobo, Tarply & Kingree in Shelbyville, Tennessee and also served in the Tennessee Legislature. In 1972 Ben moved to Atlanta and joined the firm of Carter & Ansley, LLP later becoming a Senior Partner until the time of his retirement in 2007. As an avid Bridge player for most of his life, he achieved the status of Silver Life Master.
Ben’s life was marked by a love of family. He spearheaded many family trips on which he enjoyed playing gin rummy, and golf with his kids and grandkids. Ben also loved history and Auburn football.
A memorial service was held at All Saints Episcopal Church on Hilton Head Island Saturday, March 7 2015. A memorial service was held in Covington at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Monday, March 9 at 2 pm.
