Mrs. Alice M. Pertilla died Nov. 7. The daughter of the late John H. and Missouri Williams, she was born in 1936 in Pitt County (Grimesland), N.C., She was preceded in death by her brother John W. Williams. In 1946, the family relocated to Aurora, N.C., and became members of St. Matthew Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Pertilla graduated from SW Snowden High School in 1953 and attended dressmaker training school in Raleigh. She and her cousins Ann and Lucy went to New York in 1954. There in Brooklyn, she met Lenward Pertilla. They married Dec. 25, 1958, in Aurora. He received her love, devotion and care for 52 years. Mrs. Pertilla worked in Savelle Zippers in New York but switched careers in 1968, taking a job with Standard Motors Products Inc., working there for 33 years. Mrs. Pertilla enjoyed traveling, reading and having a good time with family and friends. She became a member of Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church and served faithfully as an usher and Hospitality Committee member until she relocated to Georgia. After retirement, she became active in Key Women of America, Inc. and served as recording secretary of the South Ozone branch for several years.

Surviving are her husband Lenward; daughter Cassandra; brother Ralph (Nell) Williams; sisters-in-law Lillian Webb, Verneen Evans and Seretta Ford; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Nov. 12, at St. Paul AME church with Pastor Thomas Stegall officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
