Power is out along portions of Salem Road today after a green Volvo sedan crashed into a power pole and snapped the top from the pole about 2 p.m. today near Golfview Drive.

Sounthbound Salem Road is closed from Golfview Drive to Country Walk Way. Traffic is being rerouted through Avondale Springs subdivision. Rockdale County sheriff's deputies are encouraging motorits to avoid Salem Road until about 7 p.m.

Witnesses said the Volvo was northbound on Salem when it swerved from its lane, turned to avoid oncoming traffic and slid into the pole.

"There (was) a little bit of sparks," said Qualik Taylor. "We heard a lot of popping."

Power is out in Avondale Springs and Country Walk at Fieldstone subdivions. Snapping Shoals EMC crews estimate it will take three or four hours to replace the pole and restore service.
