A 29-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for stealing underwear from Kmart.
Covington Police Department officers were called to the store at 4:22 p.m. A loss prevention employee told police that she saw Kareema Kaberah Fortson place several pairs of women's underwear in her purse and then leave the store without paying.
The employee stopped Fortson outside of the store and escorted her back inside. On the way to the loss prevention office, the employee said Fortson tried to dump the underwear out of her purse and onto a wrack. When the loss prevention employee picked it back up and continued to the office, Fortson reportedly said "just call the cops and get it over with."
Fortson was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center where she was charged with theft by shoplifting. The four pair of underwear, totaling $21.39, was returned to the store.
