Mason Wittner has been named the sports editor of The Covington News, Publisher Madison Graham announced.
"Mason has done a tremendous job in his newspaper career thus far," Graham said. "He comes highly recommended due to his work ethic and dedication to the communities he serves."
Wittner grew up in Walton County and was a stringer for The Walton Tribune from August 2014 thru May 2018 – prior to graduating from the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism. After an internship in Pittsburgh covering the Pirates, he began working for Carrollton's Times-Georgian as their sports editor.
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to step in as the sports editor for The Covington News," said Wittner. "I have a passion for telling the stories of the local community, and I'm excited to be a part of and grow with the special community in Newton County."
Wittner succeeds Michael Pope as the newspaper's sports editor.
