Cards will be dealt, dice will be shaken and slot machines will be sounding off -- just for fun -- at a fundraising event this month.
The Washington Street Community Center will host its eighth annual Casino Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 19 at Piedmont Technical College in the Newton Conference Center, 8100 Bob Williams Parkway.
Bea Jackson, WSCC executive director, said the annual event is the center’s main fundraising campaign to support its 2013-14 programs and activities. The WSCC conducts after-school tutoring and other enrichment programs to educate and provide educational support to youths in the community.
"It is our effort of raising funds to help us sustain ourselves," Jackson said.
"We bring in professional gaming tables and dealers who set up a variety of games such as blackjack, roulette, craps, and slot machines," Jackson said. "There is a DJ, dancing, good food and fellowship. We call it our party for a purpose."
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the Washington Street Community Center, 4138 School St., or by contacting any WSCC board member. Jackson said dress for the event is "after five attire."
