Polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

What: The 2014 Primary Election is today, May 20. There are Newton County, Georgia and U.S. races on the ballot. Voters must choose to vote in either the Republican or Democratic primaries; they can also vote in the nonpartisan primary, but that will only include nonpartisan races.

Where: For a list of the county’s 22 polling places, see our list below.

What do you need: A valid Georgia driver’s license, U.S. passport, or government or military photo ID; people can also apply for a Georgia Voter ID Card at the Board of Elections or local Department of Driver’s Services (documentation that includes full legal name, date of birth, residential address and proof that the person is a registered voter is needed)

Who’s left: Newton County has 55,141 active registered voters. The county also has 9,137 inactive voters who are still eligible to vote, though they may have to cast a provisional ballot.

What’s at stake: A couple of races with local impact will be entirely decided in the primary, including the Newton County Board of Commissioners District 4 seat, the state house 113 seat and the U.S. Representative District 4 seat, none of which has any Republican contenders.
