A Covington man is looking for ways to keep his family safe after his 1995 Nissan truck was spray painted Wednesday with racial slurs and sexual references.

"Words cannot describe the way I feel, but I can say I feel violated. I just feel violated," the victim said.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Nov. 26 in front of the victim’s home on Logans Run. When the victim’s wife was on her way to work, the couple noticed the damage to the truck, which was parked outside.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s incident report, Deputy Douglas Donihe observed that the truck had been spray painted orange on the tailgate, white on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, the windshield and on the hood; and orange and white on the driver’s side of the truck.

Donihe also noted in his report the sign to the Forest Glen Subdivision had also been spray painted with a derogatory word. Since the incident, a stop sign in the subdivision also has been vandalized.

To protect their property, the complainant said he and his neighbors are trying to put together a neighborhood watch and are taking turns policing the community.

"We need more visibility in our neighborhood because we have children in and around this community," the victim said. "I’m not sure what else can be done to stop this from happening again."
