On Thursday Oct. 15, the Newton County Water Authority contacted the Newton County Sheriff’s Office because of multiple burglaries they had been having at their facility on Brown Bridge Road. Through a collaborative effort between the Water Authority and NCSO, deputies were able to apprehend two individuals who were illegally on the property of the Water Authority facility at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 15. Christopher Brewer, age 21 of Covington and 23-year-old Matthew Ford of Monticello both have been arrested and charged with criminal interference with government property, criminal trespass, obstruction of officers, and loitering and prowling. NCSO’s criminal investigation division is looking into the matter to see if these suspects are linked to any other crimes in the area. Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown stated “this is what can be accomplished when the business sector and law enforcement work together.” Brown continues to urge members of the business community and/or community citizens to call the NCSO whenever the needs arise because “it takes a cooperative effort between law enforcement and the citizens of Newton County to make our quality of life better for us all.”
