A student fired a BB gun on a Newton County School bus Thursday and local officials are investigating the incident.

A student from the Clements Middle School after-school program fired a BB gun on a school bus last night, according to Sherri Davis-Viniard, Newton County School System’s director of public relations. An exact time of the incident was not released, but Davis-Viniard said the students were on the way home from school.

There were approximately 16 students on the bus at the time. There were no injuries reported.

Davis-Viniard said some students were released to their parents at the scene and that the remaining students were transported home on a different bus.

NCSS officials and the Newton County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.

Three students are expected to face disciplinary charges in accordance with rules in the NCSS handbook, Davis-Viniard said.
