VILLA RICA, Ga. (AP) — Residents of a neighborhood in the west Georgia town of Villa Rica fear that someone is poisoning their pets.

Residents say that a half-dozen animals have either died or become seriously ill in the past four months in the Lost Lake subdivision.

Carroll County animal control officials say they are looking into the cases but add that it's difficult to prove an individual is intentionally poisoning pets.

Lt. Mike Jacquinot said tells WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/MEaTp6) that the investigation likely cannot move forward without catching someone in the act.

Villa Rica is about 30 miles west of Atlanta.
